Community Volunteer Opportunities
ECIR sponsors one or two Community Service Opportunities each month, in cooperation with the University of Michigan International Center.
Prepare a Meal for Homeless Persons
The second Thursday of each month in 2007 – go to the Delonis Center, the City of Ann Arbor’s shelter for homeless people, and help prepare and serve a meal for up to 150 people. Work is done in two 5-person teams – one starting at at 2:30 p.m., the other at 4:30 p.m. Total time commitment is 4 hours. Learn about hunger and homelessness in this community, make new friends, and do something to make the world a better place.
Other Community Service Opportunities include:
- Habitat for Humanity (low income housing)
- Nature Conservancy (environment)
- Neighborhood Senior Services (aging)
- Blight Busters (neighborhood renewal in Detroit)
- Growing Hope (community gardens)
- Bridging Communities (Latino community in Detroit)
- Food Gatherers (food for low-income families)
- SOS (program for teenagers)
