Apartments & Rooms


To pursue our mission of being an intentional international intercultural interreligious living learning community, we encourage all of our residents to share apartments with people from different countries than their own. This is why contracts are offered by each individual bedroom, not as an entire apartment (except for 1-bedroom apartments and for families). We find this is an interesting opportunity for residents to learn about and better understand other cultures, attitudes, and world views. This can also be especially helpful for those international students coming to the U.S. for the first time who may not be able to find an apartment mate before arriving. ECIR will match you with other apartment mate/s based on each person’s application.

All utilities are included in your rent. To ease your transition and arrival to Ann Arbor, all apartments at ECIR are fully furnished. Each includes:

Term Options

Annual: 12 months (August 20th- August 20th)
Academic Year: 9 months (August 20th- May 20th)
Semester: 4 and a half months

  • Fall (August 20th- December 21st)
  • Winter (January 1st- May 15th)

Semester and Summer: 8 months and a half (January 1 – August 15 or May 15 – December 31)
Summer: Various Dates from May 20th through August 15th

Summer contracts will have greater flexibility and variation in start and end dates.

Security Deposit: $300 per individual contract.
A security deposit is taken and held in escrow by ECIR until the end of the agreed term. This covers costs for the repair of any damages caused to the apartment property while in possession by the resident. Apartments are carefully inspected for condition by each resident at the beginning of each contract term, and then a move-out inspection is conducted with ECIR at the end of every contract term. Security deposits are refundable within 30 days of departure.

Preparation Fee: $160 per individual contract.
The preparation fee covers various office administrative costs surrounding your residency and also the time necessary to fully prepare linen sets and kitchenware, ensuring that each apartment is move-in ready upon each resident’s arrival.
